The Church That I See pt 5
Posted on May 19th, 2009.The Church that I see is overflowing with unified, praying people who are filled with faith, hope, and love.
Faith, Hope, & Love. We make an effort to have all three of these are being built into everything we do as a church. That if we are succeeding in being a unified, praying people, these three things will be present. I want to quickly give a thought on each.
Faith: Simply what we believe.
In all the years I have been in church, the best definition of Faith that I have ever heard it that Faith is simply what we believe. This was a brain shattering thought for me. I had always thought of faith as this incredibly difficult thing that we as Christians had to struggle to have. When I discovered that it was simply what I believed it became easy. I can have faith to be healed. Why? because I simply believe that I am. I can have faith for job. Why? because I simply believe it. I can please God. Why? because I simply believe that I do. I can accomplish anything I set out to do. BECAUSE I SIMPLY BELIEVE THAT I CAN! And that is faith.
Hope: What we attempt to give/show to everyone we come in contact with.
The Bible talks about Jesus being the Hope of the world. This is what makes us special. We have hope. The best part of City Church to me is that we are always able to give HOPE. Whether it be through prayer, serving food to teachers at Crane Highschool, supporting orphanages in Thailand or simply hanging out with people, building relationships, we can give hope. Hope is a powerful thing. Hope can keep you motivated when you feel like quitting. Hope can keep you alive when you face death & disease. Hope can revive a marriage, or keep dreams alive. And Hope isn’t Hope without being connected to Jesus. Well, at least I hope so.
Love: What we want to be known for.
As Christ Followers we are to be known for how we love each other. It is why Jesus did what he did for us. Love is such an interesting idea. It seems that everyone needs love, is trying to find love, and trying to give love, but for some reason it has become a incredibly difficult thing. The great thing about being a Christian is that we know where to find all the love we can handle. In God. God loves us, he gave us the greatest free gift and all we have to do to experience his love is accept his love. If we can show this love, lead people to this love and live in this love then we will be know for this love.
