“This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.”
Exodus 12:11, NIV
The children of Israel have been in Egypt in slavery for nearly 400 years, and their deliverance is near. God has brought Moses to communicate with Pharaoh and the children of Israel. They're in the middle of a miracle, and the Lord is providing instructions on what they should do.
City Church is in the middle of a miracle. God has moved supernaturally since our very first service. However, in this season, God is going to provide beyond our wildest imaginations for his purpose and his plan.
The Lord is saying that we need to put on our shoes, and we need to get our staff in hand. In Exodus 12:11, the Lord is preparing the children of Israel for a miracle of deliverance and protection.
The Passover meal is symbolic of God’s delivering power and his protective nature for his people. The Lord is telling the children of Israel to put on their shoes and have their staff in hand. In other words, God is asking them to be ready.
1. Be Ready to Move.
God is about to do a miracle in our church, and we need to be ready. That means different things for different people. For some of us, that means to prioritize our prayer life. For others, it means to remember to get in God's Word. Still for others, it means to step up and be ready for God to use your gifts, talents and abilities.
As a community, we need to be ready for the miracle that God is doing. We need to be ready to love people to new life in Christ, to live planted in God’s house and to lead change in our world.
God did not bring us here to be spectators; he brought us here to participate in the move of God happening at City Church. God’s question for us collectively is, “are you ready?” The Lord is saying, “Get ready because I am about to take you into the promised place of blessing.”
2. Be Mindful of What God Has Already Done.
Secondly, God told the children of Israel to get their staff in their hand. For the children of Israel, staffs were important because they were history markers. The staff was used to share their story, or as we refer to them today, their testimonies.
The Bible says that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11). In scripture, we hear that the rod and staff comfort us because it reminds us of how God has shown up in our life in the past. If he did it before, he can do it again.
God asks us to put our shoes on because he is moving us into a new place, a new season, but we need our staff ready because we need to remember what he has done.
3. Go in Gratitude.
We need to be mindful of where God brought us from, so that we can step into the new season with praise and thanksgiving. Gratitude is the key to God's Kingdom. Remember his goodness while trusting him to show up again. When we look ahead at what God has for us, and look behind at what God’s brought us through, we can’t help but say, “Thank you, Jesus!”
A spirit of gratitude will cause you to prioritize your preparation for what God is doing. Let’s remain grateful as we prepare yourself for God's miracles. We serve a faithful God. Are you ready for miracles?
God wants to take us farther than we could ever imagine in our wildest dreams. Believe God for miracles. Take some time to journal and thank God for all of his faithfulness and miracles in your life so far.
