The Power of Fasting

“Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new. It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it? There it is! I’m making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.”

Isaiah 43:18-19 (MSG)

As a church, we are entering into a season of prayer and fasting. During this season, we seek God to understand His plan rather than asking God to bless our plans.

Fasting is a spiritual discipline that involves doing without food for a period of time for a spiritual purpose. Fasting is about replacing a natural thing (time spent preparing food, thinking about food, etc.) with a spiritual thing (spending time with the Lord in prayer). Fasting produces spiritual fitness and crucifies the flesh. God’s people fast throughout Scripture. Fasting produces supernatural results.

As a church during our 21 days of prayer and fasting, we are believing for:

  1. Supernatural healing

    1. “Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” -‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭58‬:‭8‬ ‭NKJV.‬‬

    2. Fasting can heal physical and mental illnesses.

  2. Supernatural direction

    1. In Acts 13, the entire church fasted and they received new spiritual authority and assignments.

  3. Supernatural freedom

    1. “However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” -‭‭Matthew‬ ‭17‬:‭21‬ ‭NKJV.‬

    2. Feeding the spirit, such as through fasting, produces victory. We can only get victory over a spiritual issue by fighting it spiritually and walking in our Kingdom authority.

  4. Supernatural provision

    1. “Then the Lord was jealous for his land and took pity on his people. The Lord replied to them: “I am sending you grain, new wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations.” ‭‭Joel‬ ‭2‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭NIV

We must be alert and present and pursue our spiritual fitness with intention through spiritual disciplines such as fasting. Are you in tune with what God wants to do in the earth and your life?
