How to Reign in Our Calling

“And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

-2 Chronicles 17:1

To understand how to reign in our calling, we look at the life of Jehoshaphat.

As a backstory to Jehoshaphat, there was King Asa. 2 Chronicles 16:9 states, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” Asa brought a curse on the land from continuous war. Then, Asa put the prophet in prison. This was the context in which Jehoshaphat became king.

How many of us have difficulty hearing from God? We must have an intimacy with God. That is the first thing that Jehoshaphat did. He connected to God. Jehoshaphat heard from God, and therefore the Lord established the kingdom in his hand. Jehoshaphat focused on God.

If we focus on God, we will become prosperous this year. No man or woman can stop God’s plan to prosper us this year. But, we must not lose our focus when prosperity comes. Our focus is not prosperity. Our focus is God.

If we want to succeed in our calling, we need to function with dominion in it. Utilizing this principle, when the Levites and the priest preached the Word of God, “and the fear of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.” (2 Chronicles 17:10). His entire calling fell under the surveillance of Jesus. Jehoshaphat broke the curse of his father.

Sometimes when prosperity comes, we want to go outside God’s house. We want to go to Dubai, to Hawaii, to other places. But even in prosperity, we need to prioritize Jesus. 2023 will be a prosperous year for us if we practice speaking the Word of God.

Jehoshaphat became wealthy with property by staying true to the Word of God. Where God leads us, He provides for us. We should not worry about our provision as long as we obey God as it pertains to our calling. God will take you to great heights if you treat His Word with great priority. God will supply all of our needs and make us prosperous. We need to keep speaking the Word of God and declaring the Word of God, this is what Jehoshaphat did, and this is how we reign in our calling.
