Advance Nights Week #3: John Morgan
“What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.”
John 2:11, NIV
The story of Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding is chronologically the first stated miracle he performed. Jesus and his mother were celebrating at a wedding when suddenly his mother ran up to him looking for help since they ran out of wine. Culturally, running out of wine at a wedding was considered embarrassing and shameful.
Despite Jesus’s initial hesitant answer, he turned six stone jars of water into wine. He calmed the chaos and solved their needs quietly, displaying his attributes, authority, power, and glory. Jesus is the perfect representation of how we are meant to live. We are called to be people who bring light to the darkness, flavor to the simplicity, and peace to the chaos. As God’s children, we have the ability to speak calm to the crisis. It is in our spiritual DNA.
Unfortunately, we tend to spend too much time speaking ABOUT the mountain instead of talking TO the mountain. In the midst of the storm, we forget to act like Jesus. Nevertheless, God not only can, but most importantly, wants to use us for his glory. In the Bible, there are several stories where Jesus used people and things around him to glorify his name, making them part of unrepeatable miracles and amazing historical events. Jesus fed the five thousand, resurrected Lazarus, and turned water into wine. What all of these stories have in common is people willing to serve, to be used, and to be part of a story.
The supernatural power of God will never stop as long as there are vessels ready to be filled. God can fill us with peace, contentment, and joy so we can be a blessing to our surroundings just like He did at the wedding. Through his blessings, he can manifest his presence and glory so more people can believe in him.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to be a vessel. I am willing and passionate to serve you. I want to have the heart and the mind to be used by your presence and show your glory through my life. Please allow me to be the light, salt, and peace to my neighbors. Help me to follow your example and character every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen
