Day 16: The Power of Praising God

“Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” HEBREWS 13:15 NKJV

A key to experiencing God on a deeper level during our fast is to worship Him with praise and thanksgiving. The Psalms are filled with prayers of thanksgiving. They encourage us to honor and praise God for all He has done for us. "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." (Psalm 100:4 KJV)

Remembering our salvation, we give thanks for eternal life. Acknowledging God's protection, we give thanks for His providence. Recognizing His guidance and divine direction, we give thanks for His indwelling Holy Spirit. Colossians 3:16 further implores us, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." God's wonders are made known when we sing in Psalm 105:1-4. And as we praise the work of His hands and the depth of His love, other people hear and receive His message of hope. In Acts 16:25-26 we also see that singing breaks chains of bondage

We change the atmosphere when we look beyond our earthly circumstances and praise God. Strongholds and addictions are broken. See 2 Chronicles 20:21 for how our worship prepares us for victory.

When we sing, we send the Lord's Spirit before us, declaring our dependence on God, and inviting His manifest presence. When we sing, God listens and responds.

On your 16th day of fasting, remember:

●       Worship God with praise and thanksgiving.

●       Worship Him as you seek direction and His will.

●       Worship Him for more understanding about your spiritual purpose.

Prayer Focus:

Dedicate a prayer where all you do is thank God, not asking Him for anything during that specific prayer. Thank God for Jesus and for Jesus dying for our sins on the cross. Thank him for everything he has done in your life.

Reflection Question: Have you made worshiping and thanking God a daily part of your life? If not, what can you do to make sure you worship and thank God daily?
