Day 7: Our Daily Bread
“Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
“Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” JOHN 6:32-35 NKJV
We need Jesus every day. He is our source of life. When we walk with Jesus, He never disappoints us. He is our bread when we’re hungry.
In the Old Testament, bread was the main source of daily nourishment and food. The Israelites lived off manna, heavenly bread, for forty years in the wilderness. In the New Testament, Jesus reiterates the importance of building our lives on Him, the true bread of life.
Our relationship with Jesus is something we must foster daily. That means our walk with Jesus can’t happen once a week at church or on the side when we have free time. If we want to experience life abundantly, we must live off the bread that gives life—we must build our daily lives on Jesus as our source.
During this fast, when you get hungry, pause and remind yourself that Jesus is the source who will sustain you in every situation.
On your seventh day of fasting, remember:
● Jesus wants you to build your life on Him, the bread of life.
● When you’re tempted to break your fast early, remember that Jesus is your source and He will sustain you and meet your needs.
● Jesus is the bread of life and living water. Walking with Jesus means you’ll never hunger or thirst.
Prayer Focus:
Thank God for being the bread of life and the stable source you can build on. Thank Jesus for ensuring you’ll never hunger or thirst when walking with Him. Ask God to renew your strength so that you can continue fasting, believing God will sustain you over these 21 days.
Reflection Question: How have you seen God sustain you in your day-to-day life?
